Marriage books, 1855-1912 [microform].

These marriage records are from Newport, one of Campbell County's two county seats. The marriage book documents the legal union of man and woman as husband and wife. Before August, 1984, marriage books varied in content and format from county to county and over periods of time. Marriage books created prior to August, 1984 may contain one or more of the following: marriage license, bond, register or return, certificate, and parental permission slip. Many of these records were also maintained as separate series in various counties.

Campbell County was the nineteenth county created in Kentucky. Formed in 1795 from Mason, Scott, and Harrison Counties, it was named for Colonel John Campbell, an early settler. There are presently two county seats, Newport and Alexandria. In addition to these, Wilmington and Visalia also served as county seats.
